Industry Notification: ISI / BIS Certification

Extension Order for Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has issued a new notification regarding products under the categories of Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh. This order, named the Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh (Quality Control) Order, 2024, mandates that products covered under this category adhere to the following established Indian Standards:

Steel Wire Ropes for General Engineering Purposes - IS 2266: 2019
Steel Wire Suspension Ropes for Lifts, Elevators, and Hoists - IS 2365: 2018
Stranded Steel Wire Ropes for Winding and Man-riding Haulages in Mines - IS 1855: 2022
Steel Wire Rope for Haulage - IS 1856: 2005
Hot Dip Galvanized Stay Strand - IS 2141: 2000
Wire Ropes Used in Oil Wells and Oil Well Drilling - IS 4521: 2001
Braided Nylon Ropes for Mountaineering Purposes - IS 6590: 1972
Galvanized Steel Barbed Wire for Fencing - IS 278: 2009
Galvanized Steel Wire or Galvanized Steel Wire with Polymer Coating - IS 16014: 2018

Previously, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh (Quality Control) Order, 2023, on November 21, 2023. This order came into effect six months after publication, on May 21, 2024. However, a new Quality Control Order (QCO) was published on July 3, 2024. According to this latest QCO, the enforcement dates for various enterprise categories have been extended as follows:

Micro Enterprises: Extended to June 1, 2025
Small Enterprises: Extended to March 1, 2025
General(Other than Micro and Small Enterprises): Extended to December 1, 2024

This extension provides additional time for enterprises to comply with the quality standards set forth in the order.
