BIS Registration is a Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) under which the manufacturer has to get its product certified by the BIS office. BIS Registration is mandatory for IT, Electronic and Solar Photo Voltaic products.
It is mandatory for all those products which come under the Mandatory (CRS) List published by BIS office. All the manufacturers of the products which are listed in CRS need to apply for BIS Registration.
There is no matter whether factory is inside India as domestic manufacturer or outside India as foreign manufacturer. All have to get BIS Registration before selling their products in India.
The documents required for BIS Registration to apply include the information like, factory details, product details, product samples for testing, copy of trademark registration and some prescribed forms & documents. If factory is located outside of India i.e. in case of foreign manufacturer, one business organization as Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) will be needed.
To get BIS Certificate, it may take 20-30 working days depending on product category and application status.
