The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced the "Electrical Appliances for Skin or Hair Care (Quality Control) Order, 2024." This directive mandates that all electrical appliances designed for skin and hair care must comply with the Indian Standard 302 (Part 2/Sec 23): 2009. These appliances must bear the ISI Mark, which requires obtaining a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This order does not apply to goods or articles produced domestically for export purposes. For micro-enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, the order will come into effect eighteen months after its publication. For small enterprises, also defined under the same Act, the order will take effect fifteen months from the date of publication. The BIS will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for products categorized under Electrical Appliances for Skin and Hair Care.
