The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued the "Electrical Appliance for Commercial Dispensing and Vending (Quality Control) Order, 2024." According to this order, all electrical appliances intended for commercial dispensing and vending must conform to the Indian Standard IS 302 (Part 2 or Sec 75): 2018 and bear the ISI Mark. To achieve this, manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This order exempts goods manufactured domestically for export purposes. For micro enterprises, as defined in section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, the order will take effect twelve months after its publication. For small enterprises, also defined under the same act, the compliance date is nine months post-publication. The Bureau of Indian Standards will act as the certifying and enforcing authority for this order. Non-compliance will result in penalties as stipulated under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
