Industry Notification: ISI / BIS Certification

Bottled Water Dispensers (Quality Control) Order, 2024

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued the Bottled Water Dispensers (Quality Control) Order, 2024. This order, which shall come into effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, mandates the compulsory adherence to specified Indian Standards for Bottled Water Dispensers. These items are required to conform to the corresponding Indian Standards mentioned in the order and must bear the ISI Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Micro-enterprises and small enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are given a grace period to comply with these Indian Standards by specific dates—1st January 2025, and 1st October 2024, respectively. The implementation date for compliance by entities other than micro and small enterprises is set for 1st July 2024. This order aims to enhance the quality control measures for bottled water dispensers in the country.
