The Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the "Air Cooler and Air Filters (Quality Control) Order, 2024". This order mandates that all air coolers and air filters must conform to the Indian Standard 17570 (Part 1): 2021 ISO 16890-2: 2016 for Air Filters for general ventilation, which includes technical specifications, requirements, and classification based on particulate matter efficiency (ePM). These products must bear the ISI Mark and obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Notably, the order exempts goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes. Micro and small enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are granted exemptions from compliance for a specified period. Micro enterprises are exempt for twelve months from the date of notification publication, and small enterprises for nine months. Furthermore, enterprises registered under the 'Udyam portal' of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, characterized by limited investment and turnover, are also exempt from this order. The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for the products covered under this order.
