IS Standard : IS 17569:2021

In today's modern kitchens, insulated food storage containers are an essential tool for those who are always on the go. These containers, which are usually constructed of glass, plastic, or stainless steel, have two walls and an insulating layer between them to assist control the temperature of the contents. Insulated containers are excellent in retaining the ideal temperature of food and beverages. Examples of its uses include warming hot soups on a winter commute, making sure salads stay crisp and fresh, and preserving the coolness of refreshing beverages on a summer picnic. These containers' adaptability is one of its main benefits. To stop spills and preserve the integrity of the contents, these insulated containers frequently include tight seals and reliable locking systems. This extends the shelf life of perishables, making them perfect for meal prep, preserving leftovers, and cutting down on food waste.

The Indian Standard IS 17569:2021 lays out specifications for insulated food storage containers. Adherence to IS 17569:2021 facilitates the production of food containers by manufacturers, guaranteeing that food stored in them is safe to eat. These containers fulfill particular quality and safety standards. Following these guidelines guarantees that the food containers are made to efficiently maintain the proper temperature, protecting the food's freshness and quality. Manufacturers who follow these guidelines lower their risk of legal problems and liabilities by ensuring that their goods meet food safety rules.

Note: The obligatory ISI Mark Certification must be obtained by manufacturers of insulated containers used for food storage.

In the context of food safety and hygiene, ISI certification is essential for guaranteeing the quality, safety, and effectiveness of these specialty containers, which are critical for maintaining the freshness and temperature of food products. It means that these containers have passed thorough testing and meet strict requirements established by the BIS, which are especially designed to assess their suitability for food storage. By confirming that the materials used in the construction of these containers are food-grade and adhere to the relevant regulations, this certification assures that the food's safety and quality are not compromised by the possibility of hazardous chemicals or pollutants leaking into the stored food.

About ISI / BIS Certification

Indian Standards Institute, or ISI was renamed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in 1987. The official mark that the Bureau of Indian Standards provides for manufacturers of various goods is the ISI Mark. It is used to indicate compliance with Indian standards (IS) set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and has been used as a conformity marking for industrial products. Manufacturers received permission from BIS to use the ISI Mark on items that comply with relevant Indian requirements through the product certification program.

Only manufacturers (domestic or foreign) who produce the finished product will be awarded ISI Certification. This will not be given to any product importers, traders, dealers, or distributors.

  • Online payment of application fees directly to BIS
  • Submitting hard copies of the Application Form with all enclosures to the relevant Branch Office (BO) of BIS
