Drapes and curtains are crucial components of window coverings and home design that have both practical and decorative uses. These fabric-based window coverings are used for a variety of purposes in homes, workplaces, and other locations. In terms of functionality, drapes and curtains provide privacy, light management, and insulation, which helps to manage how much heat and light enter a space naturally. They can also increase energy efficiency and aid in the absorption of sound. The aesthetics of curtains and drapes are important because they give a room color, texture, and flair. To accommodate diverse likes and preferences, they are available in a range of materials, patterns, and designs.
Indian Standard IS 15741:2007 lays out specifications for drapes and curtains. Adherence to IS 15741:2007 assists producers in creating curtains and draperies that fulfill particular safety and quality standards, hence diminishing the likelihood of mishaps, injuries, and product-related problems. Producers that follow these guidelines make sure their goods meet legal requirements, which lowers the possibility of legal problems and liabilities. This standard lays forth a number of technical specifications pertaining to the performance, design, and manufacture of drapes and curtains.
Note: Manufacturers of drapes and curtains are required to hold ISI Certification.
An essential component of quality control, ISI Certification guarantees the performance, safety, and longevity of these interior furnishings—which are crucial for adorning and elevating the atmosphere of spaces. It denotes that certain textile items have passed extensive testing and meet the strict standards established by the BIS, which are designed to assess the products' overall performance, colorfastness, and quality. With this certification, curtains and drapes are guaranteed to be dependable and long-lasting since they adhere to the essential requirements for fabric composition, manufacturing, and finish.
Indian Standards Institute, or ISI was renamed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in 1987. The official mark that the Bureau of Indian Standards provides for manufacturers of various goods is the ISI Mark. It is used to indicate compliance with Indian standards (IS) set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and has been used as a conformity marking for industrial products. Manufacturers received permission from BIS to use the ISI Mark on items that comply with relevant Indian requirements through the product certification program.
Only manufacturers (domestic or foreign) who produce the finished product will be awarded ISI Certification. This will not be given to any product importers, traders, dealers, or distributors.

There are two approaches for Indian manufacturers to become certified with the ISI Mark:
Regular Procedure
With the possible exception of cases deemed "All India first," which might take up to 180 days, the licensing procedure is expected to be finished in 120 days. This timeline starts on the day the application is received, assuming that at different points in time the documentation, unit assessment, and product conformance are all deemed acceptable.
Step 1: Manufacturing Unit Customization in Compliance with Applicable Indian Standards
Step 2: Submission of the Application Form

Simplified Procedure
This is a much faster process than the standard procedure. After a factory inspection is deemed satisfactory and the initial evaluation establishes that the sample complies with the applicable Indian Standard(s), the license application process is expected to be finished in 30 days.
Step 1: Adapting the Manufacturing Unit to Comply with the Relevant Indian Standard
