Manufacturers are not permitted to trade or sell Automatic Data Processing Machines in the Indian consumer market unless they have a valid BIS Certification. It is against the law to sell such computers in India without a BIS CRS registration.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in India is responsible for awarding BIS Registration. 2012 saw the launch of the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
